I remember my Great Uncle Edwin Fitzgerald as a large man with a big appetite. I remember him at family dinners, he would use a TV tray on a stand, for a plate, fill it up with a little of everything, find himself a place to sit, and would eat all afternoon. I was always amazed at how much he could eat. I also remember him growing watermelons on his farm, and he brought us a whole pick up full of melons during the summer of 1958 when we lived in Hudson, Florida. We lived right next door to my Grandmother and Grandmother (Fitzgerald's). Edwin Fitzgerald was my Grandpa, George Fitzgerald's younger brother. Everyday about 10 a.m. after my Grandma, Kate Lovett Fitzgerald would finish her laundry, we would cut a watermelon, and it was so good on those hot summer days. The watermelons were a wonderful treat for us, as money was scarace.

A story told by my Aunt Leta Fitzgerald Buter: Uncle Edwin attempted to save a man's life one hot day along the side of a road. Edwin found Bell Butler along the side of the road. Edwin found Bell Butler bleeding to death from a traffic accident. Cars were continually passing by and no one was stopping to help, so Edwin stopped to help him. Edwin put Bell Butler in his car, which got blood all over the interior of his automobile, and drove him to the nearest hospital. By the time they reached the hospital Bell Butler was silent, and he was pronounced dead. In later years, Edwin's niece, Carolyn "Leta" Fitzgerald would marry Bell Butler's son, James William Butler. This was quite a coincidence.

Uncle Edwin was known for his generousity, kindness, and willingness to help others, even to strangers.

Edwin and his wife Irene Littell Fitzgerald are both buried in the Hudson Memorial Cemetery, Hudson, Florida, Pasco County. I visited their grave site, Feb 1995, and took a picture of the markers on their graves. There was no head stone, only an aluminum name plate, furnished by the Turner Funeral Home.

Edwin and Irene had one daughter, Dorothy Jean Fitzgerald, born 2 Jul 1928. Dorothy Fitzgerald married Roger Hill on 4 Dec 1949, and they had two daughters, Beverly and Linda Hill.

After Roger's death, Dorothy "Dot" Fitzgerald Hill married Joe Smith, 30 Sep 1976. Joe was born 14 Apr 1915. I met Dot and Joe, Feb 1995, on my visit to Florida that year at my Aunt Pauline Fitzgerald Yerke's home. Dot and Joe were very friendly and looked great. I remember when Dorothy "Dot" was a young woman whe was a mermaid at Weeki Wachi, Florida. She performed daily in underwater shows. I was told that she was quite beautiful. Dot was a first cousine to my mother, Elsie Mae Fitzgerald Wilson, and when they were growing up they were the best of friends and did many things together as friends would.

He was married to Irene Littell (daughter of ) on 29 Aug 1927 in Hudson, Florida, Pasco County. Irene Littell (1) was born on 11 Jun 1906 in Hudson, Florida, Pasco County. (2) She died on 8 Nov 1986 in Hudson Memorial Cemetery, Florida, Pasco County. She died on 8 Nov 1986 in Hudson, Florida.
